TROXEL ENTERS LAST TOP FUEL RACE WITH WINNING FEELING
Nov. 3, 2007

POMONA, Calif. – Before her exit from the Top Fuel division, Vietnam Veterans POW/MIA dragster driver, Melanie Troxel has been so consistent reeling off times of 4.579, 4.525, 4.553 and 4.561 seconds that you have to put her down as one of the favorites to win the 43rd annual NHRA Auto Club Finals at Pomona Raceway.  Of course, Troxel thoroughly enjoys her 330-mph ride and would like nothing more than rewarding the hard work of her crew by taking them to the winner’s circle in her last Top Fuel event of a career spanning since 2000.POMONA, Calif. Of course, Troxel thoroughly enjoys her 330-mph ride and would like nothing more than rewarding the hard work of her crew by taking them to the winner’s circle in her last Top Fuel event of a career spanning since 2000.

“Yeah, it’s a car that goes down the track every pass,” said Troxel.  “I know we keep saying that, but that’s the best possible scenario you could have as a team and as a driver is a car you know that will go down the track from point A to point B.  I think we can win some rounds tomorrow.  We’re excited about getting out there in trying to end the season on a high note.  I think that’s something obviously all the guys would enjoy to finish up our last race together with a win.”

She is racing David Grubnic in the first round and has a 6-2 lead in head-to-head overall competition and is 1-0 in 2007 with her round win against Grubnic in Memphis in the quarterfinals taking her onward to win the O’Reilly Mid-South Nationals in September.

“You never know how you’re going to line up at a race and that’s the tough thing about our sport,” she said.  “Anyone can beat anyone including the No. 1 qualifier as we’ve seen many, many times.  There are no easy rounds and you have to go up there giving it your best effort every time.  It’s not a hit and miss thing that they can make it run when they need to—it’s going to go down the track every time.  I have complete confidence that we will go out there tomorrow and give everyone a run for the money.”

ESPN2 will air the final rounds of the Auto Club NHRA Finals at 7 p.m. EST on Sunday, Nov. 4.
