Rides to the Front en route for Provisional Pole with 6.957 E.T.

INDIANAPOLIS – Hector ‘The Hammer’ Arana piloted his Lucas Oil Buell Pro Stock Motorcycle to the provisional pole position with his run of 6.954 seconds, 190.65 mph, after the completion of three of five qualifying sessions in the prestigious Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at O’Reilly Raceway Park.

“This is pretty neat for us,” said Arana, winner of the Pro Stock Bike division at the Norwalk race back in June.  “We’ve had our troubles during the weekend and I was trying to do some things different in hopes of improving our runs and decided to just go back to what I know best and it has worked for us.”

Arana will be trying to improve on his runs on Sunday in his attempt to be the No. 1 qualifier, his first since the 1994 Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla.

In addition, Arana is in a major battle for the No. 10 spot in gaining a berth into the NHRA Countdown to the Championship trailing Karen Stoffer by a mere 12 points with Indy being the last race to make a championship run.

“Every point counts and we want as many as we can get,” said Arana.  “We really want a chance to battle for the title and keeping up this level of performance shows we want to win!”

Qualifying continues on Sunday with two more sessions starting at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. EDT.  ESPN2 will air those final qualifying rounds starting at 11:30 a.m. with a second show at 5 p.m.  NHRA Race Day presented by Lucas Oil Products will air at 11 a.m.
