LUCAS OIL TEAM LEARNS MORE WITH EACH PASS
Sat, Aug. 30th 2008

INDIANAPOLIS – Although J.R. Todd and his Lucas Oil Fuel Treatment team might not have improved from their great qualifying effort on Friday night, but what they did learn in Saturday’s qualifying could prove to be invaluable for race day on Monday.  Currently Todd, from nearby Lawrenceburg, is in the No. 5 starting position after the completion of three of the five Top Fuel qualifying rounds that make up the esteemed Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at O’Reilly Raceway Park after running an elapsed time of 3.873 seconds at a speed of 309.91 mph.

With temperatures rising into the high 80s with oppressive humidity has pretty much equalized the competitive Top Fuel field in overcoming a very hot and slick track.

“Tonight, we left the line harder than we did last night with the front end up for at least two full seconds,” said Todd.  “It’s kind of hard to steer when the front wheels aren’t touching the ground and we got out of the groove and ended up smoking the tires.  I’m a little mad at myself for that.  We’re heading in the right direction and we’re still in the top half.  Now all we need to do is get Morgan solidly in the field.”

Todd has two more qualifying runs starting at 12:45 and 3:40 p.m. on Sunday with the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals starting promptly at 11 a.m. on Labor Day Monday.

ESPN2 will air qualifying highlights starting at 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.  Preceding the first qualifying show will be the NHRA Race Day presented by Lucas Oil Products at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
