LANGDON READY FOR PHOENIX ELIMINATIONS
Sat, Feb. 20th 2010

PHOENIX (Feb. 20) -- During qualifying through the first two races of the season, Shawn Langdon main goal with his Lucas Oil/Speedco Top Fuel dragster has been to be consistent and qualify in the top half of the field.

Through an abbreviated qualifying session at the 26th annual Arizona NHRA Nationals, Langdon and his crew have been able to reach those goals.

The second-year pro ran a 3.857-second pass at 310.98 mph during a rain shortened Saturday of qualifying at Firebird International Raceway, which was good enough for sixth place in the 16-car field. The downside is that he'll be running teammate Morgan Lucas in the opening round.

"The car has been running great, we made it down the track all three runs," Langdon said. "It made nice, clean runs. Last night, we had a little parts failure, but it was still running really good. We've got the potential to run with the top guys. We've got our consistency back."

The one damper to the situation is having to face his teammate.

"It's bad we've got to run Morgan," Langdon said. "But we've got to treat him like any other competitor. We've got to get the round wins and not fall behind in the points. It is what it is. We've got to do our best for the fans and for Lucas Oil.

"Last time we faced each other he beat me by five-thousandths of a second. Hopefully, I'll be able to get him by five-thousandths this time. I know we'll have a good race."
